As you can see from the above graphs, most senior citizen groups give Democrats higher ratings than Republicans. Senior citizen groups tend to favor Democratic positions on issues. They are afraid that tax cuts and excessively high defense spending will squander the Social Security and Medicare surpluses that will be needed when baby boomers retire. They also want adequate resources to be available for a meaningful Medicare prescription drug benefit. Also, Democrats have proposed more generous Medicare drug coverage legislation than Republicans have.
